On September 30, 2024, the Agency for Regional Economic Development - Stara Zagora (SZREDA) organized a meeting with interested parties on projects GreenSmartMed and COMMIT.. The main topic of the discussion was the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the industrial transition and decarbonisation..
Dr. Grozeva shared good European practices from working visits to the Netherlands and Slovenia. The examples from the city Groningen demonstrated the successful use of hydrogen fuels in transport and co-generation from biomass and solar energy, and the experience of Velenje demonstrated the transition of a mining town to climate neutrality by 2030.
The participants united around the need for real measures to support businesses in the region. Among the main requests to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works are:
- Prioritizing the circular economy for SMEs;
- Regional principle in the distribution of funding;
- Longer deadlines for project implementation;
- Encouraging the use of existing assets;
- Flexible forms of vocational training.
The meeting emphasized the importance of effective support for businesses in the region and the need for quick and targeted action for a just transition and a sustainable economy.
