The challenge completed: the first two Local Green Deals for Stara Zagora will be signed on 30th January

On 30 January Stara Zagora will officially meet the challenge of the Intelligent Cities of Europe. On this date, the first two Local Green Deals for the city will be signed, aiming to make the culture and tourism sectors more sustainable and more committed to local communities and their interests. The agreements have been developed by SZ REDA, together with representatives from the business, cultural and NGO sectors, as part of the European Commission's Intelligent Cities Challenge initiative. What do the first Local Green Deals predict?

The first Local Green Deal for the city is between SZ REDA and Creative Collective "On the Street". It focuses on the festival "On the Green", which in June 2025 for the third year in a row will bring together in the park "Bedechka" fans of clean urban spaces and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Thanks to the combined efforts, this year's festival will be even greener, with less waste and a special focus on regional food and drink and local producers.

The second deal is unique in its nature and unites culture and cuisine and will be concluded between SZ REDA, Stara Zagora State Opera and the Green Hill Hotel and Restaurant. It is inspired by a visit of the SZ REDA team to Savonlinna, Finland, on the SMEOrigin project SMEOrigin in September 2024. In Savonlinna, the annual opera festival makes the city not only a cultural but also a culinary capital of the region. The deal for Stara Zagora provides new and interesting events, discounts on opera and restaurant visits, and special themed menus. Its aim is to create services with greater and additional value for both residents and visitors.

The two deals will be officially signed on 30.1.2025 at 1 pm at Hotel "Vereya". Then the full details will be announced. All citizens, media, business and institutional representatives who want to be part of this important moment for Stara Zagora are welcome to attend the ceremony.

After the signing of the green deals, the training "Opportunities for supporting sustainable development in the Stara Zagora region" will be held "Opportunities for supporting sustainable development in the Stara Zagora region" at which the current funding programs for projects in the region and the opportunities for their use will be presented.
